Lent 5 – Violence Untied by Love John 19:1–16a
Crowned with thorns and mocked as king, Jesus stands before a crowd that believes force will solve its fear. This week names the myth that violence—whether physical, verbal, or reactive—saves us. Instead of mirroring aggression, Jesus absorbs it. Authority is exposed as fragile; love remains steady. As disciples, we ask where we are tempted to fight like the world fights instead of loving like Christ loves. Freedom comes not through domination but through costly mercy.
